Part Two
It rained by night,
clearing by morning,
leaving the land sprawled breathless
in the full-flung glory that follows love.
The rain a descended god
still clinging close to his bride’s body
in their eternal marriage-bed.
At this moment nothing,
not even the late print of mouse footsteps tiny in the darkness,
matters more
matters more than that titanic embrace
in their passionate, holy ceremony of silence
before, at last,
the daybreak.
