From "A day in haiku"

Victoria Junior College canteen, 6.49 am

Soft human voices

spiral like coils of incense

among blue shadows

*

SBS no. 70, Guillemard Road, 9.33 am

Quiet morning sun

filters through the bus window –

no TVMobile

*

Shenton Way, near Temasek Tower, 2.06 pm

Sunlight on the leaves –

flights of silver butterflies

flapping all at once

*

Eastbound train near Commonwealth MRT, 5.37 pm

Leaning by the door

he yawns into his paper;

outside, dusty light

*

City Hall MRT, 6.52 pm

People mix and swirl

like the bright flickery bits

after old film reels

*

Block AS3, NUS, facing Jurong Port, 8.51 pm

On the horizon

a shimmer of yellow stars,

closer than they seem

*

Arab Street, 12.16 am

Laughter like water

boils from the shadows: two men,

one mat, one shisha

*

Harry’s @ Boat Quay, 1.06 am

Dancing bodies blend

sand and hourglass into

twirling streaks of time.
